LIVE India vs Australia, 4th Test, Day 1 cricket scores and updates

The Himachal Pradesh Cricket Stadium, with the stunning backdrop of the

Dhauladar mountain range, is the setting for a Test match between India

and Australia with plenty at stake. The series is locked at 1-1 after three

engrossing and intense matches in Pune, Bangalore and Ranchi and

victory in Dharamsala, hosting its first Test match, will decide the winner.

India have not got their hands on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy since 2014-

15, while Australia can take it home if they win and claim a memorable

series victory.

For Australia, there is the added incentive of avoiding defeat in this

deciding Test so they can remain at second place in the ICC Test

Championship. Virat Kohli’s team was on a record unbeaten streak and

Australia is in India after failing to win nine consecutive Tests in Asia.

In Pune, Australia ransacked a jaded India inside three days to take the

lead; on a sharp turner in Bangalore, India hit back with a win and in

Ranchi it ended with a draw.

Kohli has been on painkillers following the shoulder injury sustained during

the Ranchi Test. It would be a huge blow for India to lose Kohli, who is

averaging 9.2 this series.

Australia won the toss and elected to bat. Steve Smith and David Warner

slammed half centuries as they stitched together a crucial partnership to

provide a brilliant start to Australia in the fourth Test match.

Ajinkya Rahane is leading the Indian side against Australia. Bhuvneshwar

Kumar was added to the side in place of Ishant Sharma. India must win the

fourth Test against Australia to regain the Border Gavaskar Trophy. If India

can win the four-Test series, it will be their seventh straight series win. India

will then become the seventh Test-playing nation to clinch seven or more

successive series.
